Changing IIS settings - Directory Browsing

IIS

Internet Information Services (IIS) is Microsoft's Web server. You can use the IIS Administration Console to enable or disable directory browsing.

Directory Browsing

Directory browsing allows visitors to enter a URL without a specific file and view the contents of a directory. The default setting for this feature is disabled.

Allow directory browsing

Directory browsing allows visitors to enter a URL without a specific file and view the contents of a directory. The default setting for this feature is disabled.

Note: Setting changes take up to 2 hours to take effect.

  1. Log into the IIS Administration Console.
  2. Open the Directory Browsing section. Note the Current Directory selected.
  3. If you wish to choose another directory to which you can apply the directory browsing capabilities:
    1. Scroll up to the Currently Selected Directory field.
    2. Click Change. A browse dialog opens, allowing you to select the proper directory. Clicking on a folder expands it to reveal contained directories.
    3. Select the directory of choice. Click Select.
    4. Note that the chosen directory now appears as the Current Directory in the Directory Browsing section.
  4. Select On or Off to enable or disable directory browsing.
  5. Click Set Directory Browsing to save your settings.
